In 2013 I went back to my birth city, New York, and ended up starting my “Origins” project – about the South-Asian immigrants that live in Queens’s neighborhood, their relocation and cultural adaptation process. Witnessing some of these processes was my way of seeing the city I was born and relate to her, which helped me to reaffirm my own origins. I experienced the power that a camera has of opening doors and bringing people together; when used with respect, the machine can help break through psychological, cultural and even different languages barriers.
