‘Nocturnal’ is a sequel to my series ‘Promise’. This work originates from a fraught family history in which there was sometimes the search for tranquility and security. A significant memory from my childhood involved a game I used to play with my dolls (my girls). I would bury them in the ground in our backyard. I fantasized that my girls escaped to another world. The girls now have become adolescent and the place is more quiet. Melancholy is mingled with the loss of innocence. This game resonated again for me when I encountered work of the Flemish Primitives during my art studies.
