In December, Lalibela, Ethiopia, the festivity of San Giyorgis (St. George) is celebrated in the church in a cross carved into the rock of Bet Giyorgis, place of worship for Coptic Orthodox Christians. For centuries the devout pilgrimage to this place mainly from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia itself, with its white robes in an act of faith spiritually charged around the church, the cross and the Tabot (replica tables stone with the Ten Commandments were given to Moses). The spectacular church, excavated in the rock, is only accessible by a long hallway that goes into the ground until the tunnel entrance to the holy church. While outside around the church pilgrims pray and sing before the amanecener, down at the bottom of the walls, people are baptized and attends Mass celebrated around the Tabot.
