The Disney Concert Hall has so many looks under every different lighting conditions. The curves reflect the light in a most unique way. This image is one under full light using a polarizer to let the sky fall to black. The curves and the contrast show off the shapes.
Jim graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1974 with a BFA in Photography as a Fine Art. Immediately upon graduation Jim moved to Washington, DC and became a teaching assistant at the acclaimed Corcoran College of Art + Design. That led to a career in DC as a freelance commercial photographer. He was offered a job to be a Director of Photography on a clay animated feature film, from there it led to many years in the Animation and Visual effects business. After many years in visual effects for TV and film in Los Angeles, Jim now lives in Rancho Mirage and has returned to his original profession of photography. A passion for Mid Century Modern architecture has led to a series of black and white images highlighting the architecture of Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage. This work has led to a number of commissions for his photographs, including the cover of the “Palm Springs Modernism†10th anniversary book, to be sold during Modernism Week 2015. His photographs are also being used in numerous publications and promotional material for Modernism Week events. Jim’s work will be featured in the Spring 2015 issue of Atomic Ranch, a magazine devoted to mid century modern homes and architecture. The article is called “Rancho Mirage in Black & White†and is a series of photographs of the 16 home mid-century community where he lives at Tamarisk Ranchos. His series of black & white images of mid-century modern architecture will be shown on a Modernism Week tour of Tamarisk Ranchos which includes his home/studio. Jim has also shown locally his series of images from the Salton Sea and the Mojave Desert. The sea is an amazing place that had such a rich history, but has been abandoned to be absorbed back into nature. Some of these images were included in a show at the Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs. Jim started his career after Photo School as a photographer and a photography teacher. His photography led to a career in the feature film and TV Commercial markets over the years but he has come back to his original career since moving to the desert.
