I am the custodian of hundreds of snapshots from previous romantic relationships. As the distance between the events captured and the present expands, I remember less of the image content (despite the role photography plays in forming and retrieving autobiographical memory) and more of the ephemerality of the time depicted. In this series of re-exposures – made using original prints – I ignore the figurative and refocus on those affective qualities that punctuate my memory. In doing so I investigate the subjective nature of perception and the capacity of personally intimate photographs to communicate with others as they do with the self.
