Ramin Shirmad was born in Iran and grew up in the mountains as a Nomad, till he moved to Susa in the age of 10 to go to school. In 1980 after the start of the Iran Irak war, he seeked asylum in Germany where he lives since then. He arrived on Christmas Eve 1980. He moved from shelter to shelter till he finally found his home in Tuebingen, where he started interning at a local newspaper. During the next 35 he lived through many ups and downs. No money in his pocket he decided to move to Berlin, where the costs of living are a lot lower than in the rest of Germany. He opened the Atelier Cafe in 2013. Rahim lives and works in his 20 sq. meter apartment. He sells Cappuccino and makes portrait photographs. He has a warm personality and shares his stories and his home with everyone. A stuffed animal tiger he once received from his mother after a leopard had attacked him, is his lifetime companion.
