Entry Description

“Urban Seascapes” is a study of the city of Madrid that goes beyond architecture. By transforming the urban landscape into a seascape, we introduce our self into a new infinite horizon leaving the noisy streets of Madrid. Each building was experiencing a precise moment of transformation of their façade that lasted longer that it should (many years) because of the crisis in Spain. At the moment between 2008 and 2014, the country was passing through high rates of unemployment and the majority of these reconstructions were stopped.

Story

“Urban Seascapes” is a study of the city of Madrid that goes beyond architecture. By transforming the urban landscape into a seascape, we introduce our self into a new infinite horizon leaving the noisy streets of Madrid. Each building was experiencing a precise moment of transformation of their façade that lasted longer that it should (many years) because of the crisis in Spain. At the moment between 2008 and 2014, the country was passing through high rates of unemployment and the majority of these reconstructions were stopped. Nowadays, these “Urban Seascape” do not exist anymore because once the building has been re-constructed, the new façade appears living behind the past. We could compare the change of the façades to the tides of the sea that come and go leaving behind a new drawing and also to the constant change of leaders in society. Buildings owned by powerful companies, banks or little private palaces that have changed the urban structure of the city sustain most of these seascapes. The same frame and angle was used to photograph each façade so we can have the illusion that we are looking at the same landscape (a big ocean) with the horizon at the same level.
