In my latest project “Homecoming”, I conceptualized a framework of understanding the Philippines through interviewing local clothing designer’s on both their childhood memories, and where they draw their creative energies from. Afterwards, I pinpointed psychologically important locations that they invited me to visit, and returned to those specific areas to ask people I encountered if I could photograph them in the outfits of these fashion designers. The combination of these oral histories, and returning to these locations allowed me to gain a better understanding of the Philippines. This body of work is about memory, nostalgia, and identity formation from the designer’s musings of their childhood history and creative spaces.
