Fuelled by autobiographical elements, my work questions notions of identity and cultural affiliations by creating imaginary archetypes based on my ancestors from Northern Africa. The objects used for my portraits seek to focus on symbolic interpretations. New work Devotion resulting in the trilogy inspired by my family background (heritage & Native), concerns the expression in the fantasy image of an erotic woman, between East and West. I wondered about the influence of Orientalism in the fantasised perspective that the western world has on Muslim women andvie versa. Colour codes resume those of erotic imagery where desire and sexuality blend with the iconology of Christian and Muslim women. This series, drawing on unveiling, is shown in two distinct formats from intimacy to intimidation, submission to domination. One format resumes the size of erotic postcards of old, the second, more monumental format, shows these women as larger than life, so as to give them a dominant position.
