A thunder and hail storm forced me to huddle in my tent near sunset as the severe weather passed through Dusy Basin in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Mammatus clouds, characteristic of these violent storms caught the sunset light and produced an intense glow in the sky which reflected back to the surrounding peaks. I had scouted out possible compositions earlier in the day in hopes such beautiful lighting would materialize. These images show the transition from early evening until about 20 minutes after sunset near a tarn I had camped near.
