It’s not really hard distinguishing Toraja from other Indonesian parts. It’s houses stick out of the trees or form a pleasant and mythical wall in the rice fields. Many Indonesians, impressed by the spirits and ghosts, are afraid to get inside. Needless to say Toraja is spellbinding right from the start. It’s funerals are still traditional. Even though handling death, these festivities are a social event bringing the neighborhood and families together. Torajan people handle their deceased with the best of care, every significant detail having it's own meaning. It’s all about the afterlife. Prior to funerals, Torajan people handle their deceased as ‘sick’ persons. Until years after the date of death, sick people are kept in the house while the family funds and organizes the funeral. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????These series are part of my first travels seeking for stories and traditions where dead is not the end.
