My goal is to find a presence, that field of tension between people and the things they are doing. However wild and daring the gymnastics excercises can be, I try to capture the focused calmness the girls exude that is necessary to perform the jumps they repeat, again and again. It is the moments when the girls are so fully concentrated on what they are doing that they don’t notice their surroundings. Although they are constantly surrounded by other people whenever they train or compete, they are able to withdraw completely and solely focus on their bodies, their movements.
