In 1968 the Belice earthquake struck the island of Sicily and killed over 200 people and left over 100,000 others homeless, one of the worst hit areas was the Belice valley in north east Sicily. The small village of Poggioreale was right in the path of the earthquake and unfortunately due to the damage it was deemed unsafe to rebuild. As a child I heard all sorts of stories and tall tales from grandfather, mother, and uncles, about the small village and the rural lifestyle of Sicily, as an adult I was determined to see it for myself. This book is my interpretation of a world that does not exist, a place that history has forgotten, and a way of keeping a little bit of the past preserved for the future.
