Jeffrey Sachs, founder of the Millennium Villages Project, with the help of Millennium Promise, UNOPS and Earth Institute of Columbia University is seeking to eliminate poverty in Africa by addressing β€œthe root causes of extreme poverty, taking a holistic, community-led approach to sustainable development,” which draws from science, government, business and civil society to empower communities. In partnership with the Millennium Villages Project, VII photographers have turned our cameras toward Africa to photograph poverty and its eradication. Our goal is to produce powerful imagery that elicits emotional responses and ultimately – hopefully – helpful action. These photos are from my recent trip to Ghana and are meant to not only show the problems that exist but to also document the progress that the Millennium Villages Project is making in Africa; to show that poverty can be overcome.
