In October 2005, M7.6 earthquake hit the north of Pakistan and killed more than 73,000 people. 898 schools in Muzaffarabad was destroyed or heavily damaged. As of 2015 only half of them were rebuilt. Kids still study outside in some schools. Attendance ratio and academic performance were declined by the sever conditions.
