Villa 31 is the biggest slum in Buenos Aires. It sits next to one of the most exclusive neighbourhoods and is home to 40,000 people, mostly Bolivian and Paraguayan immigrants who try to make a living away from home. It has its own rules, and once inside you could easily think you’re in a suburb in Bolivia and not 500 meters from the most exclusive hotels in Buenos Aires. Guido Models is a small modeling school within the Villa that has been running for 6 years. Guido Fuentes, the creator, is a Bolivian immigrant and self-taught designer. He holds weekly modeling classes where he teaches the girls how to walk, pose and wear make up. Guido’s creative efforts with the girls is a labour of love to try and change society’s perception of people who live in Villa 31, and to convince them that social integration in fashion is possible.
