With the easing of restrictions imposed by the embargo, signs of Cuba's embracing of America can be readily seen. Walking down the streets of Havana, it is not unusual to see locals wearing clothing adorning the American flag. Even taxis with American flags hanging in the window, or as air fresheners dangling from rearview mirrors, have become commonplace. Cuba cannot yet fully embrace any real change, however, as it is up to congress to lift the embargo that went into effect back in the early 1960s. For the time being, Old Glory's prominent appearance in Cuba remains largely a symbolic gesture of what may come, economically, socially and culturally – for better or for worse.
