I was searching for bears on the sea ice in Davis Straight as a storm started to blow in. I was about to return to my cabin when I spotted a fresh seal carcass at the foot of a huge tabular iceberg. The berg had been locked in to the ice when the sea froze over for the winter. I moved closer and saw that this mother and her two cubs had climbed up onto berg and were resting after devouring the seal. To me, this photo shows the frailty of the bears side by side with their ferocity. It is powerful without being graphic.
