Intersect #1, from the series Life@648k (648,000, 1/60th second, selected moments over 3 hours) tells a story of contemporary life in our cities. Creating complex, fluid and cohesive images, building a choreographed story of community, diversity and place rendered into one image, presenting as one 'decisive moment'. Playing with perspective, distortion and contrast gives a dynamic and emotional impact that enhances the drama of place. Intersect #1’s diversity and vibrancy reveals the life and energy of one of Melbourne’s (Aust.) busiest intersections, Bourke and Elizabeth Streets. Cameo roles are played by The Big Issue seller spruiking his paper, an elderly woman and handkerchief, an Asian couple with Ugg boots, taxis and trams. My ‘characters’ on this ‘stage’, all choreographed into an extended narrative, in a single frame. Artist David Hockney asserts, “All photographs share one flaw. Lack of extended time.” Intersect #1’s extended time is recaptured as a single decisive, authentic moment.
