Basketball was invented around 1890 in America. Only 10 years later the sport was introduced in the Philippines. Another decade and the Philippines had won its first gold medal at the Far Eastern Games. My photo essay documents the Filipinos love of Basketball , through the Basketball Courts of the Philippines, specifically the grassroots hoops and courts of the local mostly impoverished villages in the Southern Philippines ( Visayan region). My intention was not only to literally shoot hoops but also document the people, environment and local culture using the basketball court or hoop as the unifying theme. The project is still ongoing with over 100 courts and hoops documented, together with sub sets of the series including a focus on backboards. I intend to continue the project through crowdfunding and document courts throughout the more remote areas of the Philippines.
