These pictures are from my visit to the so called "Vela" (sail) by Santiago Calatrava. Located in a south-eastern suburban zone of Rome, it had to be the main sport center for 2009 swimming world championship. As happened for many other structures related to this sport event, the building is still unfinished and almost abandoned. A classic Italian story of delay, increasing cost and shady peoples. The building is huge and despite the apparent abandonment, there were some work in progress. Anyway, the future of this site is undefined. No one has enough money to complete the structure and someone suggest to demolish all because it is a danger for the peoples and a damage to the landscape.
