The little sandy desert in Western Australia is both hostile and magical. It’s about remote as you can get in Australia and is also one of the largest Indigenous Protected Areas in the country, t's called Birriliburu. A new aboriginal program is seeing elders return to the country, bringing along with them a new generation of rangers to teach so they too can care for their land as their ancestors did for almost 40,000 years. In this series we see Martu elder Rita and new ranger Grant performing traditional land management including ‘old way’ fire as a means to restore the land and make their country healthy again. It is argued that aboriginal management of land is key in addressing he species extinction crisis.
