At The Edge Of Life: From Ceará River to Pirambu At the edge of life is a long-term photo story which ran in from Ceará River to one of the biggest Brazilian favela, Pirambu, from Northeastern Brazilian capital, Fortaleza. The story is named after the Ceará River, which passes through the city. Story focuses on urban transformation on river social ecology, crackers and unseen daily slum life which connected by poverty at the “mouth” of the Ceará River. According to UN-Habitat, Fortaleza is one of the cities which has biggest inequality rate. The biggest part of young population of Fortaleza live in slums. Pirambu and Barra do Ceará are very large districts whole population has %49 of poverty rate compared to other suburban districts. The essay has intention to take “new images” about slum life comparing to traditional Brazilian “favela life” essays. Focusing on humanist and poetic side of realities, taking photos about daily slum culture: human relations and emotions, anomalies and crime culture is the main goals of the essay. Because the river is not such a river, but a heartland of the Fortaleza. Since then the city has grown and the social habitat around the river stayed out the original settlement point where it used to be. Now, the river is hosting cheap beaches for the working class, as well a bridge and a big and famous favela, named as Pirambu... This story has photos of the Ceara River people, the Pirambu community. The story of such people who are always being out of politics and economic speculations of the Ceara River, of which people survive with whatever is granted to them.
