This image was shot in Mesa Verde, Colorado. Here, lightning storms ravage the desert, often leading to devastating forest fires, leaving miles of scorched, skeletal trees stretching across 50% of the national park in the last decade. With increasing temperatures and prolonged droughts, wildfires have become commonplace within this Puebloan preserve.
