2017-02-18 Serrekunda, Gambia. West Africa After having contributed to the liberation of Gambia and the departure of former dictator Yahya Jammeh, a convoy of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) troops passes victorious before an advertisement of the new elected president, Adama Barrow, at a time in which most of the world was focused on Trump’s election. Despite his electoral defeat, Yahya Jammeh refused to leave power and instigated his troops to get ready for war, provoking an extremely dangerous crisis by declaring a curfew and a state of emergency, throughout which most of the locals left the country, all the embassies closed and the foreigners were evacuated. Finally after intense diplomatic moves on behalf of different nations an ECOWAS military intervention followed, some clashes took place and Yahya Jammeh left the country, which led the formerly elected president Adama Barrow to be restored into power.
