To take out and to collect the mares in the marshes of Doñana is a century-old tradition regulated since 1504 by a Duke of Medina Sidonia’s Ordinance. About 300 horses are transported from the marshes of Doñana to the urban center of Hinojos, a small village in Huelva. The people of the town greets the Virgin of the Valley with a floral wreath. After, the mares are exposed during the patron saint festivities for the purchase and the sale in the Municipal Recruitment Hall.
