Since the offensive to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul from ISIS began in October 2016, around half a million people have been displaced. Many leave the city with little more than the clothes they are wearing. After being screened by Iraqi authorities for any links to ISIS, the displaced are packed onto buses and sent to one of a growing number of IDP camps springing up around the city. At the camps they are at least safe from ISIS, but they are stuck, with no work and dependent on NGOs and the government for their food and water. With the battle still raging in Mosul, many have no idea how long they will have to wait, or even whether they will still have a home to go back to.
