Since our ancestors appeared in prehistoric darkness, the human being strives for the light. White is an important colour for almost all world religions. The Pope has worn white since 1566, as a symbol of purity and sacrifice. In Islam, and in the Shinto religion of Japan, it is worn by pilgrims. In Western cultures and in Japan, white is the most common colour for wedding dresses, symbolizing purity and virginity. For his new project “Into the Light” Tom Jacobi was travelling for two years all over the world, searching for archaic landscapes that had been created by nature over the millennia and that are nonetheless timeless. Overwhelming by their dominant colour White and photographed at bright light, they unfold their immortal power, reflecting our longing for purity, the good and enlightenment.
