Ocean pools exist only in the Australian state of New South Whales and they are part of every day beach life. The first pool was built in 1819 near Newcastle – north of Sydney – and have spread very quickly. The main goal is to allow anyone to swim in the ocean without struggling with currents, waves and unwanted encounters. Waves very often crash into the pools bringing local sea life such as jellyfish, other creatures and the poisonous yet beautiful blue ringed octopus, which is popular in this part of the world.
