Silk City is a journey into the stark contrasts of American cities in the pre and post industrialized era as exemplified in Paterson, New Jersey. Paterson, once produced so much silk that it was known as the Silk City. It's down the hill from where I grew up. The photographs aspire to unearth and portray the marginal life many people live in a post-industrial society in a city that was the birthplace of Americas industry. Some of the photographs appear as if they were taken in the 1950’s or 1960’s and yet they were taken in 2017, just after I moved back here. Established in 1792 by Alexander Hamilton, Paterson’s industrial legacy not only traces the boom and bust cycle of this small forgotten city but also many older American cities. Submarines, airplane engines for Wright aeronautics, Colt revolvers, and locomotives were all produced here.
