When I arrived to study in New York City away from family and friends of home in korea. I found myself living in an exciting yet utterly overwhelming environment. I discovered that I could find places that gave me a feeling at peace and tranquility even in this hub of social connectivity and activity. Solitude explores these special places, using them a visual for being alone with myself. I create them at times when they are empty of people. I deliberately make the figure small in the frame to emphasize the feeling of solitude. The scale of the prints is meant to envelope the viewer in this feeling. My hope with this series is that viewers will be encouraged to find places of solitude and contemplation wherever they may live or work.
