Lost and Burnt is a series of images about the aftermath of the wildfires in Pedrógão Grande, Portugal. This tragedy was a mix of a heatwave, a dry thunderstorm and years of bad forest management and maintenance. Eucalyptus is an invasive and highly flammable tree species and its uncontrolled plantation, allied with poor cleaning of the forest led for the fast and chaotic spread of the fire. With this photo essay I tried to show the detachment the Portuguese government and its policies throughout the last decades show to the countryside, its people and environmental sustainability.
