This series is the culmination of my three preoccupations: monochrome imagery; rural France; and “movement”. I’ve used cracked walls and doors as backgrounds to add a textural element. Then, by exploring a different language of expression, I’ve animated the core narratives to suggest a dynamic dimension, that of “movement” through time. This surface animation in turn invites the viewer to look longer and move both visually and corporeally, jumping from point to point around the image to discover the temporal changes. With the addition of this sense of energy, I’m trying to create an exciting and interesting dialogue between the photograph and the spectator. These dark charcoal-like images ask the viewer to get closer and having got them nearer, I want to share scenes that are abundant with the vitality of life.
