Japan's Ama-san 'Ama' - Women of the Sea. This is a tradition of free-diving without equipment with more than 2000 years old, Ama-san hold their breath and dive up to 80 feet. They harvest seaweed, oysters, and abalone off coastal in Japan. Technology could make their work easier but they protect the ocean they dive for and prevent overfishing. While the industry was once thriving, today only about 2,000 Ama divers remain in Japan.
