Chiaroscuro is a painting technique developed in the Renaissance and the most famous exponent of it was of the Italian painter Caravaggio. Chiaroscuro is an Italian word that literally means “light and dark” and the technique uses strong contrast between light and shade to create a dramatic effect and focus the viewer’s attention on the subject. I aimed to produce images which resemble paintings using an external source of light in which the light is “painted on” in a similar manner to which the artist applies paint with his brush. This is not a somber reproduction of something lifeless, rather it’s an attempt to freeze a moment in the passage of life, a celebration of my love of life, nature and colors
