Two thirds of the children in West Virginia doesn't grow up with their biological parents because they are in prostitution, addicted to drugs or in jail. While they are raised by their grandparents or other relatives, these kids have to survive to their situation which is characterized by a low standard of living. The means and knowledge to take care of themselves in a good and hygienic way is missing, they live in an indescribable chaos. It's a struggle between hope and despair, being everywhere and nowhere not knowing the natural protection of parents. How can they formulate the perspective of their future from this starting position? Being touched by their beauty and innocence. Through their personality and vulnerability, I portray the intimacy of their youth. In their poverty I look for the harmony and poetry of the sharp edges and put a soft filter on abrasive places.
