The virgin forest of Bialowezia, wich estends for 1,500 kilometers among the border between Poland and Belarus, is a unique ecosystem,largely unchanged for more than 10,000 years since the end of the last Ice Age and is home to a rich biodiversity, including the European Bison and other 58 species of mammals, over 250 species of birds and the oldest trees on the European continent. In February 2018 the European Court ruled that Poland violated EU habitat and birds directives and Poland agreed to hait deforestation immediately.
