The Latin name for leaf is Folium. In the series Transfolia I transform leaves from common trees and shrubs into their otherworldly versions made of light and vivid colors.
Nature creates such a multitude of various leaves that we rarely stop to appreciate their elegant design. In this series I make extraordinary portraits of single leaves from most common trees and shrubs that grow in my neighborhood. The photographed objects are not actual leaves but their perfect replicas made from solidified, translucent, colored organic gel. Because the organic gel has ability to show material stress as bursts of light when captured in cross-polarized light, pale “phantom” leaves miraculously transform into images of glowing, vivid and awe-inspiring vitality.
