When I visited the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo in 2017, it looked abandoned. The outdoor decoration and wall were damaged even it's in operation. During the Bosnian War, the road next to the Museum was infamous and called Sniper Alley. Over 11,000 Sarajevans were shot and killed. Yet the War ended in 1995. A lady talked to me angrily when I walked around. From her body language, though I didn?t know Bosnian, I knew she was not angry with me but her country, because the Museum is same as war time. Time freezes. The wound is still bleeding. The wall speaks.

Story

The History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the significant museums in Sarajevo, which shows the art collections and historical objects of World War II, former Yugoslavia and the Bosnian War.

When I visited the Museum in November 2017, it looked like abandoned. The outdoor staircase, decoration and wall were badly damaged, even it's still open to public. Indeed, during the Bosnian War between 1992 and 1995, the main road next to the Museum was infamous and called Sniper Alley. Over 11,000 Sarajevans were shot and killed under the siege. Yet the War ended over 20 years ago.

A Bosnian lady came and talked to me angrily when I walked around and took pictures. Though I didn’t know what she said, I knew from her body language that she was not annoyed with me but her government and country. The War is over but the Museum is same as war time.

Time freezes.

The wound is still bleeding.

The wall speaks.
