Ever since I first stepped into one of the little mainly wooden churches in the far North of New Zealand I have been visually and emotionally drawn to them. They embody important history of this country and I am moved and enchanted by their quiet contentment, humble grace and by the stimulating and loving co-existence of our Maori and European culture. Some of them are loved, others are lonely and might not survive the next storm. By photographing these churches I attempt to capture their gentle and rich beauty and raise awareness for these historic treasures before they disappear.
