Wintertime on Lake Superior can be surreal, dramatic, and breathtaking – literally and figuratively! Waves and spray sculpt dynamic ice formations along the shoreline, which seem to change daily. The cold air temperature and warmer open water of the lake create a mysterious winter fog known as “sea smoke” due to evaporative cooling. The ghostly fog gracefully glides across the surface with the slightest breeze. These winter lakescapes are rich with color and texture whether at daybreak or moonrise. Nature reminds me to remain present, because her artistic creations pass quickly with the rapidly-changing conditions.
