I hiked through thigh-deep snow to find this perch above the Vermillion River in Kootenay National Park, British Columbia. The temperature was 4 fahrenheit and a deep hush lay on the land. I wanted to make an exposure quickly because of the cold, but as the sun slipped low in the sky the clouds above started to glow in ever deeper hues, so I waited with hands stuffed down pants to avoid going numb! In the end the clouds reflected an incredible bronze colour into the thread of water which had not yet frozen.
