After a baby (or baby's) are born by caesarean they wrap them up and place them on the chest of the Mother while the doctors and nurses clean her up and close the wound. The scene on both sides of the curtain is very different - a family scene on one side, a medical scene on the other.....hence the "two sides of the curtain".
