A stressed out elephant cow charges in a dusty land. Drought is a great seasonal killer of wildlife in sun baked East Africa. The browsers like elephant suffer as much from the lack of vegetation as from the lack of water. The dry season is a natural hazard for this region, which the animals have survived for centuries. The area is a dramatic dust bowl. Although the land comes back after the rain, it never fully recovers and each year deteriorates more and more. Habitat loss is one of the key threats facing elephants. Many climate change projections indicate that key portions of elephant's habitat will become significantly hotter and drier.
