Although Cambodian children are banned to fight professionally, low income families are often quite happy to allow a coach to take away their children for training, because that means food, housing, education and a potential bright future. The figure of a Khmer boxer in Cambodia is highly respected, and coaches claim that as the children learn how to do it, they become healthy, disciplined, stay away from drugs and earn self-confidence.
