Entry Description

I have photographed signs from crossroads in order to define a boundary between the inside and the outside. I would suggest that these blurred images of symbols are abstracted boundaries from our subconscious. At the beginning, I studied fences which symbolizes the boundary, because they are constructed barriers made by people that separate two pieces of adjoining land. I also gained inspiration from the Forbidden City in China - people who live there seem to be birds caged. According to Qian (1979), “a fortress besieged: those who are outside want to enter, and those who are inside want an exit.” Why do people admire others’ lives? What is a boundary between reality and fantasy as well as self and others?
