“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” - Abraham Lincoln This June, Piper Theatre will present the World Premiere of John P. McEneny’s “The Lincoln Dress.” It’s a ghost story. These portraits of the cast are inspired by Alexander Gardner’s mugshots of John Wilkes Booth’s co-conspirators in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Gardner’s haunting photos were taken in the days leading up to the July 7th, 1865 execution of Lewis Powell, Mary Surratt, David Herold, and George Atzerodt.
