This project consists of a set of minimalist photographic prints representing snow covered mountains punctuated by coloured posts. The posts hold relatively little significance in clear sunlight but become life-saving in whiteouts. The taking of the photographs was weather dependent and low visibility and cloud cover were required. The images can be visually confusing, echoing the sensation of being in a blizzard, when orientation and balance can be compromised. The eye is led around the images in a comparable way to somebody being led down a mountain. My goal with these images looks as much to the history of minimalist painting as it does to contemporary photography. The project is to some extent an investigation into minimalism- pushing the limits of how little can be present in a photograph and it still “function” as an effective image.

Out with an investigation into minimalism and the sublime, the project is a quiet comment on man’s relationship with nature- that of attempting to tame, shape and control nature to our own ends.
The project has visual links to previous projects, that have similar aesthetic intentions towards minimalism and visual purity.
