Entry Description

Capturing the essence of the remarkable Milwaukee Art Museum's atrium is the dream of any architectural photographer. I am fascinated by the geometries, reflections and patterns created by my fellow country man Santiago Calatrava in what resembles a contemporary Gothic cathedral. One of the important elements in rendering interior work is to capture the spirit of the building, its meaning, its soul, its reason to be: whether it is by highlighting the spatial reference by means of a lonely figure overlooking Lake Michigan, or by capturing that magical moment of a couple getting engaged and being able to record that moment that will stay with them forever. My panel aspires to convey the sense of openness, cleanliness and serenity that this wonderful atrium projects. Without a doubt an inspiring piece of contemporary architecture. I do hope that you enjoy this series as much as I did enjoy shooting it.

About Photographer

Inaki Hernandez-Lasa is a Spanish amateur photographer living in Ireland for the last 25 years. His passion for photography started at an early age when he used film cameras and slide. In May 2013, Inaki received a Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation (FIPF) for his work on architectural photography. This is the highest possible distinction awarded by the IPF and Iñaki is the only photographer to have received an FIPF in architectural photography. He has received many other certifications and accolades for his panels which demonstrate not only his technical ability but also cohesion and mastery in challenging compositions, use of light, postprocessing and printing techniques. Over the last few years, Inaki has presented his work at numerous photographic societies and has acted as a judge for many of them. In 2013 Inaki was invited to participate as a judge in an international architectural competition with some of the most acclaimed and awarded fine art architectural photographers in the world such as Julia Anna Gosporadou, Joel Tjintjelaar and Akira Takaue amongst others. Inaki has photographed some of the most renowned buildings in the world such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A., Berlin's Reichstag, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago, La Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia, Dublin Airport's New Terminal 2 or the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin to name but a few.
