They rise from the darkness, each on its own yet still connected; the side light represents hope finding its way through the night. The empty stretcher symbolizes the denial of medical treatment for injured protesters and doctors who are hindered or threatened in their work. The glowing cross marks the place where healing should be possible, and at the same time recalls hospitals where the injured are turned away or exposed to persecution. For the people in Iran and in exile striving for dignity and freedom.
